Prashant Buyyala has over two decades of experience working in the computer animation and digital VFX industry. He currently serves as an independent strategic advisor and consultant for several leading digital content creation and technology organizations around the world.
Previously, Prashant worked for DreamWorks Animation where he served as the Head of Studio for the Shanghai based JV, Oriental DreamWorks. He was responsible for building, guiding and nurturing a brand new, world class production studio in China and he helped to build the Shanghai studio’s infrastructure and ramp up a production team to successfully deliver projects like Kung Fu Panda 3.
Prior to DreamWorks Animation, Prashant also headed up the international studios of VFX pioneer Rhythm & Hues Studios. There he was responsible for starting up and running studios in Mumbai and Hyderabad as well as facilities in Malaysia and Taiwan. Prashant worked on over 50 major Hollywood feature films including 3 feature films that won the Academy Award for best Visual Effects.
Prashant has a Masters Degree in Engineering Economic Systems & Operations Research from Stanford University and dual undergraduate degrees in both Physics and Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles. With this background, he has held a broad set of responsibilities during his career, ranging from building probabilistic based financial models which helped run companies, to hiring and managing digital artists, to helping establish core technologies behind the production pipelines.
